ABSTRACT

The role of local government in reaching out to the citizen at each locality cannot be overemphasized as the local government was created as a means of promoting development and bringing government closer to the people. This study investigated the local government administration and community development- A case of Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. This study adopted a descriptive survey research design. 160 respondents who are community members and Local Government employees were sampled via questionnaire. The data obtained were subjected to descriptive and inferential statistics (Chi-Square and Pearson correlation). The findings revealed that; most importantly, there is a need for Local Government to have the full authority to regulate its affair without external control, to develop better (with mean score = 2.97). Also, most important issue was that lack of training and retraining program of manpower has led to low performance of Egor Local Government Administration in community development. In addition, most importantly, performance are better rated when staff agreed that project carried out has contributed greatly to the community development (with mean score = 3.33).
