Local Government as a Veritable Institution for Political Participation

SUMMARY

This study explores the Local Government as a veritable institution for political participation (A case study of Egor Local Government). The aim of this study is to discover why it is important to strive towards achieving a high degree in political participation in Egor Local Government Area. The history of Local Government in Nigeria was reviewed. Nigeria Local Government reform, Local Government reform, Local Government creation in the Post- Independence era as well as nature of Local Government election and the factors involving political participation in Local Government politics were also reviewed. The study adopted a descriptive research design. The population of interest consist of all the population of Egor Local Government Area which according to en.m.wikipedia.org>wiki>Egor is estimated at 258,442. A sample size of 50 was selected using Simple Random Sampling technique.
