LOCAL GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to examine Local Government Administration in Nigeria: Case Study of Onitsha South Local Government. The study focus on the concept of Local Government in Nigeria, the history of Onitsha South Local Government, the nature of Local Government Administration in Onitsha South Local Government as well as the challenges facing the administration of Onitsha South Local Government. Onitsha South Local Government is one of the 21 Local Government in Anambra State.1 It shares boundaries with Delta State and Anambra State. The estimated population of Onitsha South Local Government is put at 213,894 inhabitants with the area primarily populated by members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is extensively practiced in the area.
