ABSTRACT
This study examined the effect of training and development on the performance of bank employees in first bank. Proportionate stratified random sampling was used to select 3, 637 staff and the total sample size was 360. Twohypothesis was formulated to guide the study. The data used in this study was collected from both primary and secondary sources. The primary method or sources of data collection included the use of a research instrument (the questionnaire). Some research questions were asked as guide to the respondents in order to elicit firsthand information on the subject matter. Secondary sources of data collection on the other hand, included textbooks, journal, government documents and internet materials. The study adopted the use of simple percentage, tables, descriptive content approach and SPSS to analyze the data collected and test hypothesis. The study revealed that training and development has a great impact on banking employee’s performance at First Bank PLC. Based on the research findings, the study recommended that the organization should establish the training objective in accordance with the organizational goal. This will ensure that the needed training programs are identified andimplemented. It will help in reducing the impression of some employees that these programs area waste of time and therefore take it serious.
