LITHOFACIES AND MINERALOGICAL COMPOSITION OF SEDIMENTARY SUCCESSION

ABSTRACT

Forty nine (49) ditch cutting samples were collected from the Nigerian National Petroleum Development Corporation (NNPC) from a depth of eight thousand nine hundred and ten feet (8910ft) to eleven thousand seven hundred and ninety feet (11790ft) from M3Well located in the Niger Delta Basin of Nigeria and were processed for sedimentological analysis. A lithostratigraphical chart embracing lithofacies, lithofacie units, Formations and associated minerals for the well was generated. Five (5) lithofacies comprising Sandstone, Sandy Shale, Shaly Sand, Heterolith and Shale were established for the well. Nineteen (19) lithofacies unit were delineated for the well. Four (4) minerals were identified in the analysed section of the well and includes, Mica, Iron Oxide, Feldspar and Quartz. The Formation penetrated by the drill in M3Well located in the Niger Delta Basin of Nigeria includes the Agbada Formation.
