ABSTRACT
The global use of natural gas is growing quickly, and this is attributed to its environmental advantage over fossil fuels such as crude oil and coal. LPG is used as a fuel in several applications, It can replace diesel and fuel. It is known that the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is higher than that of natural gas from which is derived. The modification of a natural gas plant to produce LPG instead of lighter hydrocarbon gases is very important economically. An integrated liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) plant which utilizes natural gas condensate from the natural gas processing plant was simulated using Aspen HYSYS. The modelling capability is based upon the basic treatment and thermodynamics of extraction of sales gas from reservoir natural gas line and the subsequent fractionation of the condensate to produce LPG. The model includes an appropriate number of the minor (impurity) gases and water present in the raw natural gas from the reservoir. Reservoir natural gas data have been obtained from an indigenous E&P company AAA which wants to develop a 30MMscf/d natural gas processing plant Onshore in the western Niger Delta area of Nigeria. The gas to remove condensates and other heavier components with the sole target of producing sales gas that can meet customers specifications. Integrating an LPG processing plant within the natural gas plant that will process the condensates into value-added products (LPG) is a way of generating more revenue from the plant. This project thus, involves only, the use of Aspen HYSYS Chemical Engineering software version 8.8 in simulating LPG processing plant from natural gas condensate using fractionating columns.
