SUMMARY:
A Correlation Analysis provides information about the strength and direction of the linear relationship between two variables, while linear regression tells if there exist any relationship between two variables (dependent and independent variables). This deals with the relationship between students’ Jamb Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) scores and Grade Point Assessment (GPA) using various correlation techniques like Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient, Karl Pearson Method and Least Squares Method to draw valid conclusions. From the discussion and analysis so far, it is observed that the students’ Jamb score does not affect the students’ Grade Point Assessment (GPA). Since there exist a weak negative relationship and weak positive relationship for both departments, which signifies that a higher Jamb score does not guarantee a high Grade Point Assessment (GPA). Some factors like peer relationship, class curriculum structure, lecturer’s personality, teaching mechanism, parental involvement, learning environment and 69 assessment could be some of the major causes that affected students’ Grade Point Assessment (GPA).
