ABSTRACT

The study was designed to investigate the limitations faced by biology teachers in the teaching of biology in Egor local government area, Edo State The descriptive survey research design was adopted by the study. The population comprises of a total of eighteen (18) teachers from nine secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area. The random sampling technique was adopted by the study to select the eighteen (18) teachers to make up the sample for the study. The test re-test reliability method was adopted by the study to ascertain the reliability of the research instrument. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency and percentages. Frequency and percentage was used to answer the research questions. The findings of the study revealed that the provision of laboratories and laboratories equipment, provision of instructional materials, conducive classroom and students interests enhance the effectiveness of teaching of biology. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended amongst others that factors limiting the teaching of Biology such as teachers attitudes towards Biology, students attitudes towards teaching of biology should be considered and measures to reduce these factors should be established.
