ABSTRACT
The production of meat and eggs from chickens and other birds is a significant aspect of the agricultural sector. It helps provide food for people. One problem for this industry is that birds can get lice, which are parasites that live on the outside of their bodies. This research looked at the kinds and amount of lice on chickens on farms in Okhoro and Eluseh Communities. It also checked how common the lice were and how many of them were on the chickens in certain farms in Egor Local Government Area. The investigation into visiting chickens occurred in the middle of 2023. A total of 108 chickens were checked. We scrutinized the head, combs, feathers, breast, and wings for any signs of lice. We collected samples by hand and preserved them in a mixture of alcohol and glycerol. Then we took them to the lab to identify them. We checked birds to see how common and how many parasites they had. A total of 288 lice were found in the sample locations. Menopon gallinae and Menacanthus stramineus are the two types of lice that can be found. Menacanthus stramineus was found more often in the two poultry farms in Okhoro and Eluseh communities compared to other places. There was a big difference in the number of lice found on birds in Okhoro and Eluseh. It is crucial to continually inspect and employ effective treatments for lice control in poultry farming, as indicated by this resea.
