ABSTRACT
This paper chronicled the different shades and patterns of fake news, delineated related concepts such as information, misinformation and disinformation, x-rayed the tin-line between news item and the point at which a piece of news becomes fake. Instances of fake news and the devastating effect of fake news and misinformation drawing inference from hate speech as a semblance akin to misinformation and disinformation.The author concluded by looking up to the library/librarian as the only arbiter in this jungle of unholy use and abuse of information/news orchestrated by malicious peddlers of fake news to find succor in national information policy as a way out.
