ABSTRACT

This study centred on LIS marketing and advocacy for enhanced market place and employability. Descriptive Survey research design was adopted for the investigation while the sample was 50 respondents made up of librarians in John Harris library. Relevant data were collected from the sample through personal contact method of administration of copies of researchers’ made of LIS marketing and advocacy for enhanced market place and employability Questionnaire (LISMAEMPEQ). The data collected were presented in Tables and analyzed using simple percentage. Based on the result of this study, it is concluded that some of the needs for LIS marketing and advocacy for enhancement of market place and employability includes creation of job opportunity for library practitioners, compete favourably with other information providers. Having representative in institutional functions, sending personal letters to users through e-mall and text messages, increase interpersonal relationship between staff and users are the techniques for LIS marketing and advocacy for enhancement of market place and employability. Good communication skills, information technology skills are required for LIS marketing and advocacy for enhancement of market place and employability. Based on the findings, it’s recommended that university libraries need to establish and develop formal marketing and advocacy programmes which will meet the needs of both the institutions and the staff in the field of LIS for enhancement of employability.
