ABSTRACT
This research is a lexicostatistics analysis of standard Igbo, Enuani, and ikwerre languages. the aim of this study is to establish the different relationship between the different languages. this study examines the degree of relatedness among the speakers of the language. The method of data collection adopted was the primary method, a face to face interview with the speakers of the language. the inspiration of this research is to show that William blench classification of ikweree being mutually intelligible with the Igbo language is inaccurate. this research work shows the cognate, non-cognate and partial cognate to show the degree of relatedness that exist in this language by using the lexicostatistics theoretical framework which is a method of comparative linguistic that involves comparing lexical items, the percentage determines their relationship. this work is set out in five different chapters followed by reference’. the research work shows that Enuani is a dialect of Igbo while ikwerre is a single language of its own, because in order for a language to be considered a dialect it must have 80% cognate word according to the lexicostatistics analysis.
