ABSTRACT

This work tittled "Lexicography of Ọza" is set to investigate the lexical items of the Ọza language with the aim of compiling a mini Ọza-English bilingual dictionary. The Ọza language is spoken in Ojah in Akoko-Edo local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. It has anestimate population of about 32000 people (2006 census). The motivation for this work is the absence of a dictionary for the Oza language. Data for this work was gathered using an in-depth interview method which consists of six persons within the age range of 35-70 years. The Ibadan word list of 400 words serves as the instrument for collection of data. The analysis for the study is purely descriptive in nature as no theoretical framework is employed. The major result of the analysis is the provision of the lexical items of the language being a mini Oza-English Dictionary.
