ABSRTACT
This study examines the lexicalization in Nigerian Pidgin. The studies informed that the status of Nigerian Pidgin has gained wider recognition. It is now used and appreciated by different sectors as a language of effective communication. This is in addition to the study of the Nigerian Pidgin English which has been accepted by many Universities in Nigerian.
This research however, aims at carrying out an in-depth investigation into the meaning of lexical items in Nigerian Pidgin.
The methods adopted in sourcing data for this research is both the primary and secondary source of data collection; the theoretical framework adopted was the lexical semantics theory.
The research found out that the meaning of lexical items in Nigerian Pidgin may be achieved through creativity and may be independent of the original meaning in the source language.
