ABSTRACT
In this work, lexical ambiguity in Yoruba is examined in detail. The study focuses on the general cause of lexical ambiguity in Yoruba language and the effects of lexical on learners of Yoruba and the challenges it poses during the learning process and their models of resolution .The aim and objectives of the study is to investigate the source of lexical ambiguity in yoruba language and explore its effects for effective communication within the context yoruba language and the society .The research design in this study involves both qualitative and quantitative method using the Archival research on existing records and historical documents on Yoruba language .The data collected was analysed using Context-dependent access model (CDAM) a cognitive linguistics theoretical framework .The study investigates how the lack of context and tone markings in Yoruba writings increases ambiguity. The research reveals the methods second language learners use to interpret intended meanings by examining how they manage this complexity. This study sheds light on the effects of lexical ambiguity on language acquisition.
