ABSTRACT
Though asthma cannot be totally cured, it can be managed and controlled as well. A plant known as Adansonia digitata has been claimed to affect the disease in a positive way. This plant is a native of Africa and the Southern Arabian Peninsula. This project is an attempt to evaluate the pharmacological activity of this plant due to claims of its potency in the treatment and management of asthma. To this end we therefore, obtained, fed, and sensitized some guinea pigs with ovalbumin solution in order to induce respiratory distress with asthma symptoms. After which the animals were sacrificed and the level of malondialdehyde in the lung tissue of this animal were determined using the lungs obtained from this animals. The result showed no significant difference (P<0.05) in malondialdehyde level in the lung tissues of the animal that was sensitized with ovalbumin sloution, exposed and treated with Adansonia digitata and also for those sensitized with ovalbumin alone as when compared with the ones that no action was taken on at all (control).
