LEVEL OF COMPLIANCE OF THE USE OF FACE MASK IN THE PREVENTION OF COVID-19 AMONG TEACHERS OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN OREDO LGA

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to assess the level of compliance of the use of Face mask in the prevention of covid-19 among teachers of secondary schools in Oredo LGA, Edo state. Three research questions were raised to act as a guide to the study.

 

A descriptive survey research design was used in eliciting response from the respondents. A structured questionnaire was administered to collect data from a sample of 100 respondents at schools in Ore do LGA and with a total population of about 402 teachers. The collected data was analyzed using simple percentage and frequency count.

 

In the findings it was observed that teachers are aware of the effects of covid-19 on health. It was also noted that majority of teachers in Ore do LGA are in compliance to the prescription issued by World Health Organization (WHO) on the re-opening of schools in using face masks during the day to day activities in the school . Based on the study it was concluded that a good knowledge and positive attitude have a great influence in the sanitation practices among teachers in Oredo LGA. In line with the findings the following recommendations were made, the government should encourage and improve the practice of healthy hygienic practices by providing necessary facilities for the service such as face masks, hand sanitizer, etc. Also, there is need for proper health education on the importance of sanitation and good health practices on the health of the teachers. And awareness and sensitization programs should be carried as often as possible to help enlighten those who do not have a previous knowledge of the concept and also serve as a remainder to the teachers about the benefits of proper hygiene practices.
