ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate lesson time, lesson duration and class size as predictors of senior secondary students’ vocabulary development in English Language in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. Four research questions were raised to guide the study

The descriptive survey research design was used for this study. The population for the study consisted of 5356 Students from Senior Secondary Schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The study sample consisted of 5 (five) Senior Secondary Schools which were randomly selected from the senior secondary schools that represents 28.6% of the study population. Questionnaire was the instrument used to elicit information from the respondents. The data collated were analyzed using the frequency table means and standard deviation.

The findings from the study revealed that secondary school student’s vocabulary has improved over time through English language lessons, it was shown that enough time is allocated for English language lessons, secondary school students' it was discovered that vocabulary development is positively influenced by the duration of English language lessons. From the study it was recommended that the school management should give enough time and period for the learning of English language. The school authority and management should mantian the stardard ratio of class size.
