ABSTRACT
The study investigated the influence of Learning Environment, Past Academic Records, Proximity to Homes, and Qualified Teachers play in Parents' Choice of School for Children in Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State, Nigeria. The objective was to ascertain the contribution of learning environment to parents' choice of primary school for their children, as well as the other factors. To achieve these objectives, five research questions were raised. Descriptive survey design was used for this study and the population of this study consisted of all Parents/Guardians (both males and females) in Oredo Local Government in Benin City, Edo State. A sample size of one hundred (100) subjects (parents) was used. The instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire. It was validated by the research supervisor and two other experts in the Institute of Education and the Cronbach alpha was used to check for the reliability and it gave an alpha value of 0.86. The data collected was analyzed using mean rating, standard deviation, and regression analysis. The findings of this study among others include; parents are saddled with the responsibility of choosing a school for their children. While doing this, they do not see leaning environment as a problem but they would first consider the proximity of the school to the home. Also, they are not impeded by the qualifications of teachers but they would consider greatly the past academic records of the school. It has been recommended that Parents should not only look at the outward appearance of schools (paintings) but should pay attention to the surroundings as well as the structural firmness of the school buildings Schools should ensure that they update their recent exploits in the industry on their servers and publicize them as well so that potential parents - clients would have enough information about their past academic records.
