ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to bring to light Learning Environment as it Correlates to Preschool Children Academic Performance in Early Childhood Education in Oredo Local Government Area Edo State. To achieve this aim 4 research questions were raised. Descriptive survey design was used for this study and the population of this study consisted schools in Benin City, Edo State but 5 schools were randomly selected consisting of private and public schools, 10 preschool teachers were selected from each school sampled.

The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire. The mean and standard deviation was used for the data analysis. The findings of this study include: not having enough instructional materials does not affect academic performance and there was no qualification difference in the perception of the challenges of learning environments on the provision of early childhood education environment. Therefore the study recommends that adequate classrooms should be provided to help promote effective teaching for pupils improved academic performance, and also efforts should be made by the stakeholders to provide schools with infrastructures and sufficient learning materials to help teaching and learning activities.
