ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to investigate the fungi associated with the leaf blight of Azadiratchta indica seedlings. The diseased seedlings of Azadirachta indica were obtained from the Department of Forest Resources and Wildlife Management Nursery, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Benin, Ugbowo Campus, Benin City. Isolation, sub-culturing, identification of isolates and pathogenicity tests were conducted. The medium used was Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA). Identification of isolates under the light microscope was carried out. The symptoms observed on the leaflets were yellowish to brown spots (lesions) that spread progressively on the surface of the leaflets and eventually caused the death of the leaflets. There were two fungal isolates associated with the disease; Rhizoctonia solani and an unidentified isolate. Rhizoctonia solani was confirmed to be the pathogen of the leaf blight of Azadirachta indica.
