ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to examine leadership style on organisational performance. The main objective was to determine the relationship between leadership style and organisational performance. The population of the study comprised of all employees of God is Good Motor (GIGM) Benin City and a sample of one hundred and forty-seven employees was selected using the Taro Yamane method. Data was collected by means of questionnaire and personal interviews. The sample was selected from the population using convenience sampling. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics including percentages, means and also using regression analysis. These analyses also helped to test the hypotheses formulated. The findings of the study revealed that there is a negative relationship between autocratic leadership style and organisational performance; there is a positive relationship between participative leadership style and organsational performance; the leadership style adopted by GIGM is participative in nature and it positively impacted on organizational performance. The study therefore recommends that participative style of leadership should be adopted in running an organisation as it had positively and significantly improves performance.The study also recommended that autocratic style of leadership should not be adopted in running an organisation as it had negatively and significantly diminished performance.
