LEADERSHIP STYLES ADOPTED BY PRINCIPALS AND ITS IMPACT ON TEACHERS’ JOB PERFORMANCE

ABSTRACT

 

This study investigated the Leadership Styles Adopted by Principals and Its Impact on Teachers’ Job Performance in Public Secondary Schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The population for the study will comprise the teachers in the 15 public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. Available data show that there are 561 teachers in the 15 public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State The sample size for the study will be made up of 140 teachers constituting 25% of the total number of teachers in the 15 public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. With the aid of the simple random sampling technique, twenty eight (28) teachers will be randomly selected from five secondary schools in the local government making it a total of 140 teachers.

 A questionnaire titled “Principals Leadership Styles and Teachers Job Performance Questionnaire (PLSTJPQ)” was used to collect information from the respondents. Frequency counts, tables, and simple percentage were used to analyze data generated from the study. It was discovered from the study indicated that lesson note writing, classroom management and mastery of subject matter all constitutes the characteristics of teacher’s job performance in public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. Findings from the study also revealed that leadership styles adopted by a principal often lead to efficiency in the work output of teachers in public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.
