ABSTRACT
This study was designed to determine leadership development in vocational and Technical education as a necessary tool for training undergraduate for self reliance and for gainful employment. The study examined leadership styles and how effective they would be in training undergraduates, to achieve these five research questions were raised.
Using the descriptive survey research design data was collected through the aid of questionnaires. Stratified sampling technique was used in the study to select the four (4) unit program needed from the population comprising of all the course area in the department of Vocational and Technical Education, University of Benin. The questionnaires was structured according to the research questions and distributed to a sample population of 100 students. Analysis of the data collected revealed that VTE is very much important but still finding its footing in the society.
The findings also revealed that there is still low interest in VTE and this is making the program still in its infancy stage. In view of the findings, the following recommendations were made, to achieve maximum effectiveness of this program; the rnment should put more effort towards provision of well equipped facilities, well trained personnel's and enough finance to run it. The students should be mor informed on the benefits of the program after school to enable them build interest.
