ABSTRACT

 This study deals with the language used in taboo expression using Edo as a case study. Its central focus is to find out how taboo words are expressed in Edo language and what the Edo people consider as taboo.

The study employed both primary and secondary sources of data collection to get basic data used in the study. Data for this study was gotten from informants (two) from uhunmwode local government of Edo state. The ages of the informants ranges from 55-65 and are competent speakers of Edo language. The analysis of this data was done using the descriptive approach/framework to describe the data that was gotten from the competent native speakers (informants) of Edo language.

The study discovered that the Edo language makes use of euphemism as substitutes for taboo expressions and also that these taboo expressions are being used as parables at certain situations.
