ABSTRACT
This study examines the language use in protests using the EndSars as a case study. This work however intends to investigate the various languages and songs used during political demonstrations and protests, especially as it relates to the SARS and police brutality that stirred up many agitation and anger nationwide. Data were gathered and collected using both the primary and secondary sources, the primary data source was based on participant observation, and a one on one interview, while the secondary data sources are the textbooks, articles and the internet. To achieve the aim of this study, the researcher used the tenets of Speech Act theory as the theoretical approach. From the study it is revealed that protest speeches and songs are a very strong communicative tool aim at criticizing and redressing the status of a particular entity through peaceful demonstrations, as one of the salient term following freedom of speech is ‘the right to protest’, thus making it every citizens of the country’s right to protest.
