ABSTRACT

This study was carried out at Iguzama Community in Ovia North East Local Government area of Edo state to evaluate some soils for mango cultivation. Soil survey product was carried out by the rigid grid method at a detailed scale which produced Three (3) mapping units. Each mapping units was represented by a pedon and each pedon was appropriately described according to FAO (1976). Soil samples were analysized using Standard procedures. land area and pedon3 covering 18 hectares of the total land area. The result of the land evaluation revealed that pedon 1 and 3 representing 30 and 45 hectares (75% of the study area) where moderately suitable for mango cultivation with minor limitation in fertility. Pedon 2 representing 10 hectares (25% of the study area) was marginally suitable for mango cultivation with severe limitation in slope. Limitation encountered in the study was fertility ( base saturation, organic matter and pH (pedon 3) and topography (pedon 2)
