ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to examine the Knowledge of the health implication of climate change among residents of Isihor in Ovia north east LGA Benin city Edo state . Two research questions were raised and analyzed for the purpose of the study.  The research design adopted for this study is the descriptive survey research design. This design measures the prevalence of an outcome of interest in a defined population. It provides a snapshot of the characteristics of the population at a single point in time. It can be used to assess the prevalence of outcomes and exposures, determine relationships among variables, and generate hypotheses about causal connections between factors to be explored in designs. This design is considered suitable for this study as it can look at numerous characteristics at once. And can help investigate the knowledge of the health implications of climate change among residents of Isihor in Ovia Northeast LGA of Edo State.   The population for this study is 153,849 comprising of all residents of Isihor community. A sample of 399 residents was used for this study. The Taro Yamane formula for calculating sample size was used to get the sample size, the instrument for this study was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts in the department of Health Safety and Environmental Education, their suggestions and criticisms were incorporated into drafting the final document, The test re-test method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument. The instrument will be administered to 20 respondents who are not part of the study. After 2weeks the instrument was readministered to the same respondents. Pearson product moment correlation coefficient was used to calculate the scores.

The instrument that was used for the data collection is a self-structured questionnaire tagged: the knowledge of the health implication of climate change among residents of Isihor in Ovia north east LGA of Edo State, The instrument will be administered by the researcher, with the aid of 2 research assistants after a careful explanation of the objectives of the study to the respondents, the instrument was retrieved immediately after completion to ensure 100% return rate. The findings of this study suggests a community that is not only knowledgeable about climate change but also motivated to take proactive measures to address its health implications. This awareness and positive attitude can serve as a foundation for implementing effective strategies to mitigate climate-related health risks and promote sustainable living practices in Isihor.
