ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to assess the level of knowledge of Peptic Ulcer among social science students in University of Benin, Benin City.The study adopted a descriptive survey design and using multi-stage sampling technique, it sampled Three Hundred and Fifty Four (354) undergraduate students in selected departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Benin in Edo State. A well-structured questionnaire was used as instruments of data collection. The data analysis for the objectives as well as the research hypothesis was carried out using the IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26.0 for windows. The level of significance was set at p<0.05. The result shows that there is poor level of knowledge of peptic ulcer and positive attitude towards it among undergraduate social science students. There is also significant association between academic level of the students and level of knowledge of peptic ulcer among the students. The study therefore recommends increasing awareness and education which will go a long way in reducing the disease burden and facilitating early detection and intervention programs.
