ABSTRACT
The study seeks to examine the knowledge of Nursing mothers attending Post Natal in UBTH on the health dangers of applying breast milk in their babies eye infection. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design, seventy (70) Nursing mothers where selected from the population as the sample for the study.
The study revealed that majority of the nursing mothers attending Post Natal in UBTH agreed that apply breasts milk is effective against their babies eye infection and that it does not result in any complication. It also revealed that most of the nursing mothers although they knows the rights procedures to adopt when their babies have eye infection still engage in instilling breast milk as they believes it has always provide positive results since time immemorial.
In conclusion it was revealed that the factors that present these nursing mothers from seeking proper medical care when their babies have eye infection was far from poverty, education or lack of access to health care rather it was because they felts that eye infection is a minor issue and that the time spent in seeking a doctor is far too much as they have over things and business to attend to.The followings recommendations were made:Health education should be strengthened in Ante natal and post natal clinics, awareness should be heightened on the effect of breast milk application in babies eyes, Health care provider should try to attend to client/patient early enough when they visit health care services.
