ABSTRACT

The study examined the Knowledge of Hazards And Safety Practice in the use of Power Generators among Non-teaching Staff of University of Benin. Three research questions were raised to guide the study. Several scholarly literatures where consulted and reviewed in the course of the study. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study was 5,600 of non-teaching staff and a sample size of 100 respondents were used for the study. The instrument used for data collection was the research questionnaire and obtained data were analysed using frequency count and percentage.

From the data obtained and analysed, it was revealed that attitude of staff towards generator usage is high. The extent to which people engage in unsafe generator practices is high. The level of the people unawareness to the health effect of the health effect of generator usage is high.

Based on the above findings the researcher concluded that the Environment aimed at developing and maintaining the health of people is affected as the incessant noise generated can lead to dizziness and poor concentration when studying, safe and pleasant physical environment in all human settlements, to promote the social, economic and physical wellbeing of all sectors of the population. And recommended that the government should consistently evaluate the sufficiency and efficiency of the facilities provided for electricity in order to make timely replacement of dilapidated once.
