ABSTRACT
Family Planning remains one of the vital tools used in controlling population of a country, size of family and avoiding unwanted pregnancy among married and unmarried individuals. Due to its awareness, the use of family planning is high . It is based on this fact this study was designed to examine the knowledge of family Planning among nursing mothers in Ekosodin, Ovia North East Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State. The research design employed in this study is the descriptive survey research design. The design involves a systematic gathering of information from the respondents or sample of the study. The population of the study were women in Ekosodin, Ovia North East, Local Government Area. A convenience sampling technique was used to get a sample of 100 women. The instrument for the study was a self- structured questionnaire. Mean and Standard deviation method was used for the analysis of the data gathered. The research found out that culture was a major influence on the practice of family planning among women in the sampled area. Furthermore, educational level affected the practice of family planning. Based on this finding the following recommendation were made among others: the need for healthcare providers to be properly trained to offer counselling services on family planning and Women should be made more acquainted with the benefits of family planning.
