ABSTRACT
Pediatric-anaemia remains a significant public health concern globally, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Understanding the knowledge of causes and treatment modalities of pediatric-anaemia among mothers is crucial for effective management and prevention. This study assessed the knowledge of causes and treatment modalities of pediatric-anemia among mothers of under-five children attending a tertiary health institution in Benin City. A descriptive survey design was employed, utilizing a convenience sampling technique to select 200 under-five children in tertiary institutions for the study. Sociodemographic characteristics of the respondents were analyzed, revealing diverse backgrounds among the mothers. The study found a generally high level of knowledge among mothers regarding the causes of pediatric anemia, with (53%) respondents demonstrating good knowledge and additionally, the majority of respondents, 67%, exhibited a positive attitude towards the treatment modalities of anemia. Barriers identified by mothers in accessing and utilizing anemia treatment modalities for under-five children were evaluated, with financial constraints being the most commonly cited barrier (81.0%) among others. Significant factors influencing mothers' perception of anemia causes included ethnic group (χ² = 5.696, p = 0.034), while variables such as age, number of children, educational level, and residence showed no significant impact. Treatment modalities and barriers to access were also explored, with significant relationships found concerning residence (χ² = 9.307, p = 0.025) and ethnic group (χ² = 8.637, p = 0.035). The study provides insights into challenges that mothers may face in seeking anemia treatment, highlighting areas for intervention and support. This research provides insights that can inform strategies aimed at improving the management of pediatric-anemia in similar settings. The researcher therefore recommend that health institution should Implement targeted health education programs to improve mothers' knowledge about the causes of anaemia in children
