This study was carried out to examine the knowledge of and attitudes towards non-drug approach in the management of hypertensive patients in UBTH, Benin City, Edo State. The descriptive survey research method was employed inthestudy.The population for the study was 143 from which a random sampling technique was use to select 100 respondents for the study. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire of 20 items. The data obtained were analyzed using frequency count and simple percentage
The study found that hypertension patients in UBTH have a good level of knowledge of on the non-drug approach towards the management of hypertension, on the attitudes of hypertensive patients towards the use of non – drug approach used in the management of hypertension. There is a positive attitude towards non-drug approach used in the management of hypertension as well as a good level of compliance of hypertensive patients on the non – drug approach used in the management of hypertension. Bases on the findings, the researcher proposed the following recommendations; health workers should increase the level of awareness on the non-drug approach in the management of hypertension. Patients should be educated on the role diets place in managing or aggravating hypertension. Routine exercise should be prescribed for hypertension patients alongside their drugs.
