KNOWLEDGE ATTITUDES OF STUDENTS TOWARDS HIV/AIDS AMONGST FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF BENIN STUDENTS

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to examine the knowledge, attitudes of students towards HIV/AIDS among the students of University of Benin (UNIBEN). The study focuses on all the undergraduates studying in the University of Benin Campus. The objective of the study is to identify the possible measures that can be used to educate and promote the awareness of the effects of HIV/AIDS among students of University of Benin. The descriptive survey research design was employed in the study. The population for the study was forty-six thousand, two hundred and thirty-two (46,232) students from which three hundred (200) Students were selected using the simple random sampling technique. The instrument for the data collection was a self-constructed questionnaire which comprises 15 items. The data obtained were analyzed using frequency count and simple percentage.

The result revealed that there are various ways students can get information as regards their  knowledge, attitudes towards HIV/AIDS and these ways include the internet, the school, TV/radios, our homes, peer group influence, social background, economic status, lack of facilities, children from broken homes and good parenting.
