Abstract
Nursing practice has to change from being based on tradition and intuition to being evidence-based due to the growing demand for healthcare, technological advancements, and explosion of knowledge. Thus, the purpose of this study was to assess nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and use of evidence-based practice as well as factors related to it in tertiary health facilities in Edo State. There was a cross-sectional survey that was descriptive. The researcher designed a validated self-administered questionnaire as the instrument. By employing the multi-stage sampling procedure, 248 nurses from the chosen hospital were chosen for the study. Using SPSS version 16, data analysis was carried out. The majority of nurses, or 180, or 72.5%, had a moderate degree of understanding about evidence-based practice, according to the results.43 nurses (17.4%) had good knowledge, while 25 nurses (10.1%) had poor knowledge; 191 nurses (77%) had a positive attitude towards evidence-based practice, while 57 nurses (23%) had a negative attitude towards it; 184 nurses (74.2%) had low utilisation of evidence-based practice; 50 nurses (20.2%) showed moderate utilisation of evidence-based practice; and 14 nurses (5.%) had high utilisation of evidence-based practice.
It is advised that midwives update their knowledge through continuing education in light of this finding. Hospital administrators should set rules and regulations governing how nurses are to apply evidence-based practice while managing patients.
