ABSTRACT

The study investigated knowledge and preventive practices of sexually transmitted infections among secondary school students in oredo local government. Four research questions were to guide the study. is to correlate knowledge and preventive practice of sexually transmitted infections among secondary school students in Oredo local government area of Edo state, The descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. consists of all the five hundred and nineteen (519) students from Iyekogba Grammar School in Ebo community, Oredo LGA of Edo state. The instrument used in this study is the questionnaire titled “knowledge and preventive practice of sexually transmitted infections among iyekogba grammar school students in ebo community, oredo local government area of edo state.” The finding from the study revealed that Findings also showed that peer pressure and exposure to social media and students’ curiosity are predispose factors among secondary school students which if not control can lead sexually transmitted infections. In conclusion, the study revealed that some STI preventive practices are already in practices however, majority of the respondents who may be prone to STIs are unaware of where and they could get STI preventive services, also it was discovered that peer pressure and lack of parent adequate provision for their teenagers can lure them into premarital sex which on the other hand can result to STI.
