ABSTRACT
The study is aimed at evaluating the knowledge and practices of food hygiene among school food vendors in Ugbowo Community of Egor Local Government area in Edo State, The study was to examine the level of knowledge of food hygiene among school food vendor, determine the level of food hygiene practice among school food vendors, examine the knowledge of school food vendors on healthy food.
The survey research design was adopted for the study; the population for the study was 117 food vendors in selected secondary school, The sample of this study is made up of 70 (which is 60% of the total population) food vendors in the selected secondary schools in Ugbowo Community of Egor Local Government Area. A simple random sampling technique was used to select the respondents for this study.
Following the analysis of the data collected and finding made, the follow summaries were drawn: food vendors in secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area are fully aware of hygiene practices while selling their food, most of the food vendors engage in food hygiene as most of them engage in regular hand washing and clean cooking environment. Based on the conclusion drawn from the findings, the following recommendations are drawn from the findings of the study; school proprietors should employ the services of food hygienists to train the food vendors on food hygiene and be monitored closely to ensure they inculcate food hygiene practices
