ABSTRACT
This study was designed to elicit “Knowledge and Practices of Early Child Safety among Crèche Care Givens in Benin Metropolis (Capability Mood)”. To achieve this, three research questions were formulated during the course of the study.
To explore these research questions, descriptive statistics and simple percentages was used for the study and a sectioned designed questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. The sample size for the study consisted of 1823 registered nursery schools with crèche session and day care centers as at 2022 (Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development).
The result of the research shows that the care givers have high level of knowledge concerning early child safety, care givers in Benin metropolis practice early child safety and that there is a difference in knowledge of child safety among creche care givers in Egor, Oredo LGA, Edo State.
Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended amongst others that; creche owners and managers should looked into child care practices and factors affecting infant feeding, maternal health and diet, psychosocial and health care, and hygiene practices, care givers in creche should be enlighten to understand that child care is a collection of behaviors that begins with the child's feeding habits and management of creche centers should also ensure that they promote a healthy and safe environment for the child, as well as adequate health care for the child's psychosocial and emotional support.
