Questionnaire was adopted to solicit information about the problems of improper solid waste management. The major instrument for data collection was the questionnaire which comprised of two sections, section A and B. Section A was designed to elicit information relating to demographic data while section B was designed to elicit information relating to improper solid waste management in halls of residence, University of Benin. It was discovered after the research work proper solid waste management is not effective in the halls of residences and that there is insufficient manpower and equipment for proper waste disposal in the hostels. On the basis of findings made, the researcher strongly recommends that; there is no sorting of solid waste in the hostels, and so the separation of solid waste should be considered from the point source. Apparently, there is an urgent need to increase the number of facility to collect waste around the hostel as well as the number of the collections. In order to overcome the problem, two movable plastic bins with a bigger volume are enough to separate biodegradable and nonbiodegradable solid waste.
