ABSTRACT
This study investigates the knowledge and practice of men towards family planning in Ovia North East LGA, Edo State. To guide the study four research questions were raised with the aim of determining the level of knowledge about family planning among men in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, to find out the steps that can be taken to promote a positive attitude of men towards family planning, also it sought to find out whether religion affect the involvement of men the practice of Family Planning.
A Survey research design was adopted for the study, the population was 30,397 while a sample size of 150 was selected using the simple random sampling technique. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire of 15 items. Responses obtained from the respondents were analyzed using frequency counts and percentage.
The study found out that men of Ovia North East LGA of Edo State have a good knowledge about Family Planning, also it was found out that family planning sensitization, motivation from the wives for their husband to practice family planning, religious leaders should encourage the male in the congregation to practice family planning are some of the factors that would help in the promotion of positive attitudes toward men involvement in Family Planning. Following the findings of the study, the researcher recommends gender sensitive policies that promote male involvement in Family Planning should be drafted and implemented, there should be Family planning messages, organizing workshops or group sessions where men are informed about Family Planning and can discuss freely should be highly encouraged.
