KNOWLEDGE AND MANAGEMENT OF DYSMENORRHEA AMONG FEMALE STUDENTS OF SELECTED DEPARTMENTS IN FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCE, UNIVERSITY OF BENIN, EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

Dysmenorrhea, also known as dysmenorrhoea, is a common illness characterized by painful menstruation that causes excruciating cramps in the lower abdomen. Adolescents and women who are of reproductive age frequently complain about it, and it can be either primary or secondary. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the management and awareness of dysmenorrhea among female students in a few departments within the University of Benin's college of Management Science in Edo state. The purpose of this study is to evaluate participants' understanding of dysmenorrhea and their perception of the condition and its treatment.. This study employed a cross-sectional descriptive design. Three hundred and five female students from a population of 902 students in particular departments within the University of Benin's faculty of management science served as the sample size. Data was gathered using 43 carefully designed questionnaires in total. Three hundred and five questionnaires were collected for analysis. To test the hypothesis, the analytical techniques employed were chi-square, frequency, percentage, and averages. The results showed that 96 people (31.5%) had high knowledge, 82 people (26.7%) had intermediate knowledge, and 127 people (41.6%) had low knowledge. It also demonstrated a favorable opinion on dysmenorrhea. Reducing sugar intake and exercising have also been shown to be quite successful in managing dysmenorrhea.Additionally, there was no statistically significant correlation found between female students at the University of Benin's Management Science Faculty and their ability to manage dysmenorrhea in Edo State.Seminars on dysmenorrhea awareness and its many management approaches are necessary.
