SUMMARY

This study seeks to assess the knowledge and awareness of Radiation exposure and safety practices among patients undergoing medical imaging in selected hospitals in Benin city, Edo state. The 53 study was outlined into five chapters. Chapter one of this study dealt with the introduction of the topic, statement of problem, objectives of the study, research questions, research hypothesis, the scope of study, the significance of the study and operational definition of terms. Relevant literature were reviewed in chapter two on the subject under discourse, theoretical framework in which the“Health belief model”was used with its application to the study and empirical review of related studies were also discussed in this chapter. Chapter three dealt with research methodology which adopted the survey research design and a convenient sampling technique was used to select 228 respondents among patients in University of Benin Teaching Hospital(UBTH) and Central Hospital . A well-structured questionnaire was used as instruments of data collection. Analysis and interpretation of data were discussed in chapter four, tables with percentage and means represented information. The result from the study shows that shows that patients in University of Benin Teaching Hospital(UBTH), Central Hospital and Stella Obasanjo Hospital hadafair knowledge of radiation exposure, a poor knowledge of radiation safety practices and a fair awareness level on the side effects of radiation exposure.
