ABSTRACT
It is expected that this research will elicit critical thinking among historians in the future, which is advantageous since it may address important issues that this study did not anticipate and will stimulate more conversation. Through the use of multiple data sources, this study bolsters the multidisciplinary nature of historical research by showing that a single historical analysis approach is insufficient to fully understand the kingship institution, especially in North-eastern Yorubaland, where there are numerous states and distinctive features.
This research has addressed various negative perceptions regarding the kingship institution in Nigeria and advocates for positioning the institution as favorably as possible. This approach aims to enable it to fulfill its political and socio-economic functions effectively, not just within local administration but also within the broader context of the Nigerian political landscape. The central theme is inclusive governance to promote greater development.
