KIDNEY FUNCTION TEST, LIVER FUNCTION TEST, LIPID PROFILE AND FULL BLOOD COUNT PARAMETERS

ABSTRACT

In this study, it was observed that kidney function test, liver function test, lipid profile and full blood count parameters obtained values agreed with the previous reports on wistar rats exposed to Annona muricata leaf extract. The histopathological findings in this study showed no pathological changes in the tissue sections of organs in animals used as control group while the treated groups showed no tissue abnormalities at lower doses in 1 month duration of the extract administration which agreed with previous studies done on wistar rats exposed to Annona muricata leaf extract even with different medium of extraction. Exposure of both male and 94 female wistar rats to ethanolic Annona muricata leaf extract showed no deleterious effect on the biochemical, hematological and histopathological findings at 100 and 200mg/kg in short duration of 1 month. It was observed that higher dosage of 400 and 800mg/kg especially on histopathological findings showed mild to moderate coronary changes in sections of the heart, mild periportal cellular changes in sections of the liver and moderate hemorrhage in sections of the kidneys in the 2 months duration of exposure. The effect may be conclusively stated as dose and duration dependent. It may be summarily presented as lower dosage, shorter duration brings about no pathological changes while higher dosage, longer duration brings about mild to moderate coronary congestion, interstitial congestion and oedema and bile ductal hyperplasia changes in tissue histology.
