ISOLATION OF MICROORGANISMS IN VEGETABLES USING PUMPKIN AND WATERLEAVES TO DETECT BACTERIAL AND FUNGAL GROWTH

ABSTRACT

 

Fresh leafy vegetables which includeTelfairia occidentalis (Fluted pumpkin leaf), Talinum triangulare(waterleaf )were bought from three different market namely oba market,new benin and santana market respectively and taken to the laboratory for investigation to detect the possible microorganisms that can be found in the different vegetables bought from different vendors in different market. The samples were washed and homogenized and pour plate technique was used. Serial dilution of the samples were used after one 1ml was pipetted into nutrient and macconkey agar plate for the bacteria and potato dextrose agar for fungi. The nutrient and macconkey agar were incubated for 24hrs at 37oC.
