ABSTRACT

After all that has been discussed in this study, we understand that South Ibie is one of the clans in Edo State of Nigeria. Islam brought momentum socio-political and economic gain to the people of South Ibie. The study discussed the geographical location and people of South Ibie in ancient times; the study also covered the socio-cultural, economic and political institutions of South Ibie clan. This chapter elucidated the indigenous religious beliefs and the subsequent Islamic faith introduced by the Nupe invaders and how subsequently became an official religion of the inhabitants. This chapter focused on the impact of slam on the political structure of South-Ibie, how it modified the pre-Islamic political institutions and turns it into an institution that follows the Islamic principles. The chapter also examined how Islam as a religious tenet influence the socio-cultural activities of South-Ibie, which range from marriage, education and many more.
