ABSTRACT
Polyherbal formulation have been used all over the world for it’s immense medicinal and therapeutic values. This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of hydroethanol extract of polyherbal formulation on the antioxidant enzymes of the liver of male Wistar rats. The rats were grouped into 5 and administered doses of 250mg/kg, 500mg/kg ,1000mg/kg and 2000mg/kg for 21 days while the control received distilled water. The activities of the liver antioxidant Superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, reduced Glutathione and malondialdehyde were evaluated . Results revealed that the extract had no effect on antioxidant activity at 250mg, 1000 and 2000mg but the 500mg dose caused a marked decrease in all the antioxidant levels. Thus caution must be applied when taking this formulation at this dose for long term periods.
