Monitoring the behaviour of drilling fluids under extreme high temperature is important. Neglect of the behaviour would cause severe consequences, leading to non productive time (NPT), and loss of resource. In this research, two mud samples, Oil base and a water base mud system, suitable for Niger Delta formation were formulated. The separate sample were allowed stability for different static time intervals with their plastic viscosity and yield measurement taken under specified temperatures. Analysis from results show a decrease in plastic viscosity with increase in time. As temperature increase there is a diminishing effect with time, whereas, an increase in yield point value with time for specific temperature conditions was obtained, both for the oilbase and water base mud formulations used for this experimental study.
