ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate clay deposits using 2-D Electrical Resistivity Imaging method in Ofumwegbe, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State Nigeria. PETROZENITH Earth Resistivity Meter was used for data acquisition. Four profiles were carried out using Dipole-Dipole array configuration with electrode spacing of 5m to 40m for all the four profiles to give information about the changes in the subsurface resistivity and this changes was interpreted with the inversion software (RES2DINV). The need to prospect for clay deposit in Ofumwegbe became important in view of the fact that clay is a natural resources with outermost value, setting up industry/factory that rely on clay as its primary raw material for manufacturing purposes will benefit indigenes of this locality and reduce unemployment. The result obtained showed subsurface deposit from the survey and the tomography images of the subsurface. Clay was inferred at a moderate quantity between a distance of 5m − 20m, 26m − 40m and extends vertically to a depth of 6.30m and 9.26m, down to the last depth in Profile line 1.
